Great pilot energy. The whiplash moment where Joro's harem daydream immediately face plants is exactly the kind of gag this whole show is built on, and it's genuinely funny watching him try to spin the situation into a "win" in real time instead of just admitting defeat.

The character introductions at the start of the episode were quite sweet, with clear, straightforward narration. The warm school atmosphere made viewers feel as though they were being taken on a trip down memory lane. Himawari's antics are just so endearing to watch. As the episode progresses, the scenes become even sweeter. But I’m not sure whether to laugh out loud or feel sorry for Joro😭

ORESUKI's premiere pulls off one of the sharpest bait-and-switches in rom-com anime. The episode opens with every trope you've seen before, the self-proclaimed ordinary protagonist Jouro, a bubbly childhood friend in Himawari, a poised student council president in Cosmos, and what looks like a paint-by-numbers harem setup. The pacing is deliberately conventional at first, lulling you into comfortable territory before the show starts peeling back layers. Jouro's character presentation is the main attraction here, as the writing toys with audience expectations about who this guy actually is beneath the nice-guy surface. The comedic timing is sharp, the visual direction knows exactly when to shift gears, and the episode ends having completely reframed what kind of show you're actually watching. A strong, confident opener that earns its hook.
