Ōoku: The Inner Chambers
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Set in Edo-period Japan, this anime depicts a society dramatically altered by the Redface Pox, a disease that has ravaged the male population. Within eighty years, men constitute only a quarter of the total population. Consequently, women have taken on roles traditionally held by men, including leadership positions and the role of the Shogun. Men, now precious and vital, are carefully protected. The most beautiful among them are selected to serve in the Ōoku, the Shogun's Inner Chambers. This reversal of traditional gender roles explores themes of power, societal structure, and the value of life in a world turned upside down. The story focuses on the lives of those navigating this new reality.
