Fujitora just walking away from Sabo because he knows the Navy can't fix this mess is a big move, it shows he actually cares about the people more than just following orders from the government.

My brain is actually fried after learning Doffy used to be a World Noble and it makes me hate those Celestial Dragon guys even more for how they treated his family once they left
ichigo_inoue_67's avatar
ichigo_inoue_67
I finally understand why Doffy is such a monster and seeing him as a kid getting treated like trash after leaving the holy land explains so much about his worldview and his brother Rosinante being the opposite really shows that your past is not an excuse to be evil like this but man that reveal about him being a former Celestial Dragon is huge

The fight with that string clone was so smooth and the way Luffy and Law are trying to keep up with Doflamingo really shows how much of a threat this guy actually is

Doflamingo's absolute meltdown over not being a Celestial Dragon anymore was such a twisted thing to witness, I mean, it’s pathetic how much he clings to that title. But then his pure, unhinged rage is genuinely terrifying, and it makes me question how he and Corazon could both suffer through that same hell yet come out so completely, fundamentally different.

I still can't believe Doflamingo was a Celestial Dragon and the way he just wants to burn everything down makes way more sense now after seeing those flashbacks of his family being hunted
megumin_mage_148's avatar

I was genuinely horrified when Doflamingo talked about killing his own dad just to get back to the Holy Land and that kid is absolutely terrifying

I still cant get over seeing Doflamingo and his family tied up and tortured like that and it explains so much about why he is such a monster now because my skin was crawling during that whole flashback sequence
eren_yeager_106's avatar
eren_yeager_106
I am genuinely shocked that Doflamingo used to be a Celestial Dragon and his backstory is easily the darkest thing we have seen in Dressrosa so far and seeing his family lose everything and get hunted by that mob was brutal, but he still chose to be a psycho by killing his dad, and I love how complex his character is now

Luffy looked completely stunned by the news that Doflamingo was one of those world nobles and his confused face said it all

Law using that Radio Knife move on Trebol was so smart because it finally stopped that sticky guy from just putting himself back together

The reveal that Doflamingo used to be a Celestial Dragon changes everything about how he acts, and seeing him kill his father at ten years old just to try and get his status back was purely demonic. It makes his current obsession with destroying the world feel so much more personal now that we know he lost everything and lived through that hell

Trebol sliding apart after Law hit him with the Radio Knife was the highlight for sure and the way he looked so confused was such a funny moment

Fujitora letting Sabo stall him while the city burns is such a strange move for an Admiral and you can tell he has some bigger plan for the Navy

Watching Sabo and Fujitora just talk things out instead of destroying the whole island was a nice change and it proves Fujitora actually cares about the citizens

My jaw dropped seeing that former Celestial Dragon, Doffy's own family, get absolutely hounded by the mob in a trash heap—it was truly gut-wrenching and not what I expected for someone of his lineage. That kind of brutal upbringing makes me understand why Doflamingo turned into such a ruthless, darkest-villain-yet kind of guy, yet I still can't help but feel a little pity for the family's plight.

Luffy and Doflamingo fighting each other looked better than it has in weeks, and the fluidity of the punches really made the action pop

Sabo and Fujitora just walking away felt a little weird, but the gambling metaphor Fujitora used to explain why he is trusting Luffy was a cool touch

I feel like Doflamingo being an ex-noble is a little bit of a tired trope for a villain who just wants to burn the world down even if the reveal itself was unexpected

The animation during that clash between Luffy and Doflamingo was actually decent for once and seeing them trade blows like that felt really intense

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 699 escalates directly from the strategic offensive Luffy and Law launched against Doflamingo in Episode 698, shifting focus from pure combat to the critical backstory that contextualizes the Dressrosa conflict. This is a pivotal mid-arc episode that enriches the antagonist before the battles intensify further. It sets the foundation for the deeper revelations and heightened confrontations that Episode 700 builds upon.
