Kyros being the toy soldier actually broke me and I can't imagine how much it hurt to see his wife die while he stood there as a plastic toy with no one knowing who he was
obariyon_oracle's avatar

People in this city just forgot about their loved ones because of the toy curse and it is a nightmare which makes Doflamingo the worst villain so far

Ricky taking off his mask and being revealed as the old king was a massive twist and those old soldiers still respecting him after everything was a really strong scene

I could not stop laughing when Bartolomeo finally met Luffy and his face just melted. That weird art style for Luffy in his head was so disturbing and perfect

Hearing about how Trebol turns everyone into toys makes Doflamingo look even more like a monster. The lore about the old kings was a nice touch
krillin_ki_59's avatar

The reveal about the toy soldier being Rebecca's dad felt like something that was obvious for weeks. The history of the original Don Quixote king was actually really interesting
gerrard_gambit_489's avatar

You could tell the gladiator was King Riku from a mile away. Seeing him in that pit with all those kneeling toys was extremely unsettling

The background story for Dressrosa and the original Don Quixote king really puts all the current chaos into perspective. Trebol is even more terrifying now

Finding out that the toys literally cannot disobey orders and have to watch their families forget them is a special kind of horror that makes you want to see Doflamingo get wrecked

I am actually crying over the toy soldier being rebecca's dad and he had to watch her mom die while being a toy and it is so messed up

I honestly felt like the pacing was a bit slow today, but Bartolomeo having a total meltdown over Luffy made up for it. The way he imagined Luffy looked like a weird nightmare drawing was so funny and weird. It is cool to finally have the Toy Soldier identity confirmed even if it was super obvious from the start of the arc

doflamingo is easily the most hated guy in the series for what he did to the riku family and he deserves whatever luffy does to him

King Riku being back in the picture changes the whole atmosphere of the tournament and you can see how much his old guards still care about him despite the lies
ganondorf_262's avatar
ganondorf_262
The gladiators still showing respect to King Riku even after all the lies Doflamingo spread about him was a really touching moment, especially since the rest of the country hates him

I really felt for the Tontattas when they explained how they were enslaved for centuries, and then Doflamingo just stepped in to keep the nightmare going for everyone else and Bartolomeo losing his mind over Luffy was a nice break from all the depressing backstory stuff but man Dressrosa is a lot darker than I thought it would be
silentotaku's avatar

That scene in the toy pit where they all started kneeling to King Riku was so creepy. It really shows how dark this kingdom actually is under the surface

I honestly didn't think the toy soldier's backstory would hit me this hard, but finding out he's Kyros and he's been by Rebecca's side this whole time while she had no idea who he was is just devastating. The way Doflamingo completely erased these people from history using Sugar's power is so twisted, and I really can't wait for Luffy to fix this mess

Pacing is dragging a bit in the beginning but the flashback with the toy soldier and Rebecca was worth the wait because that reveal changed everything

sugar having that toy fruit makes her the most dangerous person in doflamingo's crew and the way it deletes people from memory is terrifying

I think I am actually Bartolomeo because my reaction to seeing Luffy would be exactly the same fanboy mess that he just went through

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off the high-octane colosseum battles, episode 658 pivots sharply into political and historical territory, laying essential narrative foundations for the Dressrosa arc's second half. The revelations about the Toy Soldier and Riku Doldo III recontextualize the kingdom's suffering under Doflamingo and give the Straw Hats' mission far deeper personal stakes. This episode functions as a critical bridge—everything that follows in the Dressrosa conflict draws emotional fuel from what's established here.
