Sabo really gave up a life of luxury just to be free with his brothers, and it shows how much he valued that friendship over everything else in that city

Episode Context

Following Episode 495's rescue from the Bluejam Pirates, which cemented the trio's loyalty, Episode 496 shifts from survival stakes to the emotional core, the shared dream of freedom that binds Luffy, Ace, and Sabo together. This is a critical character-building chapter within the extended flashback arc, deepening the brotherhood before Episode 497 pushes toward their quest for independence. Everything established here pays forward into some of One Piece's most devastating future moments.
