Office Affairs
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Fresh out of college and assigned to the busiest section in the company, Hiroki is somehow convinced he can handle all of it without letting things get messy with Rie, his girlfriend of two years who works in admin down the hall. Spoiler: things get messy. His new supervisor, Mai Sugiyama, is exactly the kind of person you don't want to be around when you're already trying to keep a relationship together, and Hiroki is not exactly a guy with the strongest willpower. Mechiku is a one-episode OVA from 1999, based on a manga, and it leans fully into the office drama premise rather than treating it as just background noise. The appeal here is that it actually bothers to set up the tension between professional ambition, loyalty, and temptation before things escalate. There's a character dynamic worth following, not just a series of disconnected scenes. If you've seen something like Office Affairs or Shusaku and appreciated when these stories commit to a believable setup, Mechiku fits that same niche. It's not trying to be subtle about where it's headed, but it earns the scenario through actual character framing. For a single episode runtime, it covers enough ground to feel complete rather than rushed. Worth a watch if you're already into this corner of the genre and want something with a bit more interpersonal stakes baked in.
