📖 SYNOPSIS

Set in the Kyouhou era of early 18th-century Edo, "Oedo wa Nemurenai!" follows Usugumo, a popular courtesan in Yoshiwara. Unbeknownst to most, she is the daughter of a Christianized prostitute and the shogun, Yoshimune, though political circumstances prevent their open relationship. Her life takes a turn when she encounters Kikunosuke, a blond-haired thief. Joining them is Aoto Touichirou, a doctor practicing the unfamiliar Western medicine. Together, they form the Kikugumi, a thief group. As they navigate the vibrant, yet dangerous, world of Yoshiwara, a mysterious group emerges, setting their sights on Usugumo, threatening her and her newfound allies. The series explores themes of identity, societal constraints, and the fight for justice in a time of flourishing merchant culture.
