Obusu ni Hanataba wo
Oshimeter
Synopsis
It's not the relatable "I had a bad hair day" kind of insecurity — Hana Tabata genuinely believes she's ugly, and has built her whole high school routine around being invisible, believing no one would want to talk to her. Her one quiet joy is sneaking into the classroom early each morning to arrange fresh flowers before anyone else arrives. It's her private ritual, her little moment of calm. Then Yosuke Ueno, the popular guy who's apparently incapable of not being nice, catches her mid-arrangement and just... starts talking to her like she's a normal person. Which, to Hana, is earth-shattering. This 13-episode ONA from Studio Newon adapts the manga with a style that leans into small, subtle facial expressions — the kind of animation that lets you read every flicker of doubt and warmth on Hana's face. The soundtrack by Yuki Hayashi and Shogo Yamashiro hits that sweet spot between comedic timing and genuine tenderness. What makes this one worth your time is that Hana isn't treated as a makeover project. The story cares more about how she sees herself than how anyone else does, and it's surprisingly funny about it. If you liked the slow-burn warmth of Kimi ni Todoke or the "unlikely pair" energy of My Love Story!!, this covers similar ground with its own voice. It's gentle, it's awkward in the best way, and the flower motif gives everything a quiet poetry that sneaks up on you.
