Niplheim's Hunter
Oshimeter
Synopsis
In Niplheim, a dark fantasy world where the threats are both monstrous and human, a huntress named Azel is trying to make sense of a dangerous region. When strange disturbances start spreading through the region, she's the one sent in to figure out what's going on — and things get complicated fast. This is a 2-episode ONA adapted from a game of the same name, and it leans hard into that source material's aesthetic: detailed character designs, a reasonably fleshed-out fantasy setting, and an atmosphere that takes its world seriously even when the content gets explicit. If you've watched Kuroinu or Taimanin Asagi and appreciated how those series built out their lore and locations rather than just using fantasy as wallpaper, Niplheim scratches a similar itch. The huntress premise gives it a bit more action-adjacent framing than something like Kyonyuu Fantasy, so there's actual momentum to the story rather than just scene-to-scene vignettes. Two episodes means it's a short commitment, and fans of the original game will likely get more out of the references and character context. Going in cold still works fine — the setup is clear enough. Studio SELFISH put visible effort into the animation quality, which makes a difference in this genre more than people admit. It's not trying to be something it isn't, but within what it is, it's put together with care.
