Episode Context

Coming off the Golden Week hijinks and Shinbei's mystery in episode 4, episode 5 pivots from event-driven plots to world-building, debuting Makinosuke Hanabusa as a major recurring comedic foil. His introduction here plants the seed for a direct continuation in episode 12's 'Part II,' establishing one of the season's longest-running gag threads. It marks an early investment in the show's deep bench of supporting characters that will pay dividends throughout the run.
