New Angel

Synopsis
When his childhood crush Shizuka unexpectedly transfers to his school, well-meaning high schooler Kousuke finds himself in an immediately awkward reunion — they haven't seen each other since they were five. She's nothing like he remembered, he's exactly the hormone-driven mess you'd expect, and neither of them is particularly thrilled about it at first. The early episodes play that tension straight, leaning into genuine romantic-comedy beats before things naturally get more intimate as the two slowly warm up to each other. Don't expect wall-to-wall adult content from the jump — the setup actually earns its progression through character chemistry and low-stakes dramatic moments rather than skipping straight to the explicit stuff. The 1994 cel animation has that warm, hand-drawn quality that fans of golden-era OVAs tend to genuinely appreciate. If you liked the slow-burn romantic tone of Doukyuusei or the nostalgic high school atmosphere of Kakyusei, this sits comfortably in that same space — just with a more comedic lead and a lighter overall mood. It runs five episodes, produced by Arms, and based on a manga, so the pacing feels compact and focused rather than padded out. The balance between slapstick comedy and emotionally grounded intimacy is what separates it from more one-dimensional entries in the genre. Worth a watch if the 90s OVA aesthetic and a character-driven setup appeal to you.
