Synopsis

When three Tokyo sisters suddenly find themselves inheriting an island kingdom they never knew existed — along with the ancient god that comes with it, nothing in their ordinary lives could have prepared them for it. Minami, the eldest, is already stretched thin working multiple jobs to keep her family afloat. Her younger sisters Ushio and Yuuhi are still figuring out who they are. Then Neo Ranga, a colossal semi-organic deity from a remote South Pacific island, shows up in Tokyo, and suddenly their personal problems feel very small by comparison. The catch is that Neo Ranga responds to them — these three ordinary sisters are the ones holding the leash on something that could level a city block. The series wastes no time getting into the messiness of that situation: the government wants control, people are terrified, and the sisters can barely agree on what to have for dinner, let alone how to handle a god. It's darker and more grounded than the premise suggests, leaning into social and political friction rather than straightforward mecha action. Neo Ranga itself looks nothing like a typical robot — more creature than machine, which gives the whole show an unsettling edge. If you liked SSSS.GRIDMAN's take on giant entities disrupting everyday life, or Shingu's quieter approach to aliens affecting a small community, this sits in similar territory. It's a 48-episode TV series from 1998, so it takes its time, but the character dynamics between the three sisters are genuinely the backbone of the whole thing.
