Wow, talk about an incredibly unsettling atmosphere done right. I went into this expecting standard spooky tropes, but the general vibe right out of the gate is deeply unnerving in the best way possible. The sound design and art direction carry a lot of the weight here, making you feel like something is horribly wrong even during quieter moments.

Entering a sketchy VR game is a cool hook, but the strange combination of goofy, cartoonish 3D animation and dark eldritch terror totally throws off the vibe.

This was a very intriguing start for this anime, although the subs for this show definitely seem off. But it’s something I’ll get used to. The animation for the 2D and 3D world was a big highlight.
