So much padding.

Episode Context

Sitting at episode 59 of 220, this lands right at the climax of the Chūnin Exams arc, one of Naruto's most iconic stretches. The previous episode escalated tension significantly with Gaara's menacing hospital confrontation, and this episode channels that unease into anticipation as the final tournament brackets are about to kick off. It directly sets the stage for Naruto's highly anticipated showdown against Neji Hyuga, a fight that carries major thematic payoff for both characters.
