You'll feel so proud of the kids at this point. In hindsight, completing the Forest of Death alone is a huge feat in itself, and at such a young age

Pacing is still steady, which is great. And the hype and intrigue buildup about the curse mark and Orochimaru is consistent too 🤩

Good sorta wrap up for the exam, Iruka is such a mother duck here haha. I like how we also get a spotlight for third hokage

The way the Hokage is letting this continue despite knowing an S-class criminal is in the village, which seems like a terrible idea for the kids and makes you wonder.

That Kabuto guy is acting so weird with those cards and then just leaving right when the fights start makes you think he is hiding something huge

I stayed up late watching and I felt so much better when Iruka showed up at the end of the forest because he clearly cares so much about Naruto

I can't believe Orochimaru is just standing there disguised as a regular ninja and it makes my skin crawl after seeing the way he toyed with them in the woods

Anko looks totally spooked talking to the ANBU about Orochimaru and hearing that even the elite guards might not be able to stop him makes the exam feel dangerous

Having Iruka show up to greet the kids was a great touch and Naruto acting all confident about his growth shows he is actually becoming a proper ninja

Kabuto is definitely hiding something with how many times he has failed this exam on purpose and the way he lingers around Sasuke is incredibly suspicious

I really felt for Iruka at the tower because he is like a father to Naruto, and his reaction to how much they have grown in the forest was beautiful, and that explanation about the exams being a tiny war for power between villages is a dark twist that makes the stakes feel way heavier than just a simple promotion for these kids

My heart actually melted when Iruka told them they passed because he was so worried about them but he still showed up to be the one to give them the good news and he clearly cares so much for his old students

Sakura wanting Sasuke to drop out because of that curse mark was actually a really good moment for her and you can tell she is just scared for him

Iruka showing up for his students was so wholesome, and it really grounds the show before things get even darker with that Orochimaru reveal and the danger Sasuke is in

Iruka appearing at the end was so sweet and seeing him actually worry about Naruto and the others was really touching plus those scrolls were such a crazy trap

Hearing that Orochimaru is an S-class criminal is a massive deal, and it really puts into perspective how lucky the kids were to survive the forest at all

It was a total shocker to hear the Hokage talk about how these exams are basically a miniature war to keep the peace between countries, especially since the kids have no idea, and then you have Anko reporting that Orochimaru is an S rank threat which makes the whole situation feel way more dangerous than just a simple test for a promotion

Anko telling the Hokage about Orochimaru being an S class criminal was such a chilling moment and now the stakes for Sasuke feel like they just went through the roof since everyone is on high alert

The rookie nine all being there together felt so cool but they really threw a curveball with those prelims and it feels slightly unfair to do it now

I actually teared up seeing Iruka pop out of that scroll to welcome the team and his face just looked so proud of Naruto and it made me feel good because he finally sees them as real ninja

EPISODE CONTEXT

This episode lands squarely between the brutal second stage of the Chunin Exams — the Forest of Death gauntlet that tested every team's survival instincts — and the preliminary one-on-one battles that will thin the field even further. It serves as a critical transitional chapter, letting the dust settle while quietly raising the tension for what's next. The regrouping here gives essential context for the individual matchups and rivalries about to explode in the episodes ahead.
