classic late-series filler where naruto and the gang help rebuild a town while menma continues being suspicious, it's watchable enough but you can feel the padding - neji and tenten at least get some screen time even if nothing really advances the main plot

That broken doll in the dirt made my stomach turn and knowing Menma was probably part of the group that did that to the village makes his amnesia feel like a curse

The sound ninja attacking with those wires was a decent fight but that ending with the bandage coming off really leaves things on a dark note for the village

Seeing those graves really changed the vibe and it makes the reveal about Menma's tattoo so much worse because he was just helping them build that massive wall

The way Menma jumped in front of that spiked ball for Toki was brave, but after seeing that tattoo on his arm, it really changed how I feel about him

It was cool seeing Naruto work so hard on that wooden wall and then everything goes to hell the second Menma gets hurt and reveals his secret mark

Neji was right to be suspicious from the start and that ending proves he has the better instincts even if Naruto wants to believe the best in everyone he meets

I knew Menma was too good to be true and that tattoo reveal at the end really hurt because I actually started liking the guy after giving that flower to the little girl

I actually felt bad for Menma when he saw that broken doll and started losing it and Naruto is way too trusting but that is just who he is so I hope the tattoo is a mistake

Naruto promising to return for ramen at the start was classic and it made the later scenes in the graveyard feel even heavier when the team saw what the Sound ninjas did

Tsunade was right about the Land of Rice Patties being dangerous. You can tell Naruto should have listened to her warnings. Seeing that tattoo at the end makes you wonder if Menma was faking it

I know people say to skip these episodes since it is just filler, but I actually liked the bonding during the wall construction. It was peaceful until that Sound ninja attacked and Menma took that heavy hit for Toki. I was starting to believe he was a good guy, but that ending reveal with the bandit mark changed everything for me

That shot of the doll in the ruined village really set the tone. You could tell Menma was losing it. Naruto is just too pure and his defense of his friend might backfire now

Neji using his Byakugan to track Menma through the trees was a smart move and it proved he never trusted the guy. The reveal that he is actually one of the bandits was a massive blow to the team

The way Shiin used those wires to trap Naruto in the trees was pretty clever and it led to a brutal hit for Menma. Seeing Toki refuse to treat the wound after seeing the tattoo was cold

Neji was definitely the voice of reason this time, and seeing that bandit tattoo at the end makes Naruto look like a fool for being so stubborn about his new friend

I felt so bad for Naruto when he stood up to Tsunade because he really believes the best in people and now that tattoo reveal makes his loyalty look like a mistake

I really felt for Menma when he saw that broken doll in the dirt. He just froze up like that. Naruto is being way too trusting even though Neji was right to keep an eye on him

Constructing that massive wooden wall with the villagers was actually kind of nice and it showed how much work went into saving that place even if the ending ruined the mood

That moment when the glint of light from the scope gave away the bandit's position was sharp, and Neji reacted so fast

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at episode 214 of 220, this lands squarely in Naruto's extended filler run that fills the gap before the series finale. It directly follows 'Vanished Memories,' which introduced the questions surrounding Menma's origins, and feeds into 'A Past to Be Erased,' where Menma's true identity and purpose are expected to surface. None of these episodes advance the canonical storyline, so viewers tracking the main narrative can safely skip this arc entirely.
