wraps up the sea country filler arc decently enough with the nine-tails power and gamabunta making an appearance, gives isaribi a hopeful ending which is nice for a filler character. not essential viewing but one of the more watchable filler arcs

I usually skip filler but getting more Anko lore was actually worth it. It’s wild seeing her struggle with that cursed seal and hearing about her time with Orochimaru because she normally feels like a side character. The animation looked a bit rough when Amachi was fighting but Naruto bringing out the red chakra to finish him off felt like a classic moment for him.

amachi is finally gone and it was great seeing anko take charge of her own memories instead of letting the past haunt her the whole time

isaribi finally smiling after talking to naruto was a big moment since they both know what it feels like to be hated by everyone for no reason

that giant sea boss was creepy as hell but naruto and gamabunta working together to blow it up was the exact kind of action this arc needed

i know people usually skip the fillers but the ending of this one felt special because of how much naruto related to isaribi being called a monster the way gamabunta just evaporated that giant sea boss was such a massive scale for a side story, and i'm glad anko finally got some closure on what happened with her and orochimaru back then

shino and ino barely did anything this whole time but naruto using the nine tails power to protect isaribi made the whole mission worth it

watching isaribi realize she isn't actually alone and seeing her decide to come back to the leaf with the team was a nice touch, even if it took five episodes to get there

my heart broke for anko when those flashbacks of orochimaru and her curse mark started happening again because she deserves way better than that kind of trauma

amachi really thought he had a chance until naruto started leaking that red chakra and absolutely wrecked him

seeing gamabunta show up to just blast that sea monster nucleus out of the water was actually pretty cool for a filler arc finale

isaribi realizing she is just like naruto really got to me and seeing her let go of all that anger was a great way to end the arc

Using the fox chakra to take out Amachi was a highlight. Naruto really needs to learn some new moves soon

This episode was mostly just Naruto yelling about his bonds and it felt repetitive even for a filler arc finale

That sea monster getting evaporated by the steam was a cool way to end the fight and it looked decent for filler

I was genuinely surprised that Naruto used his empathy to reach Isaribi at the end because it reminded me of the Haku fight and seeing him tap into the red chakra and summon Gamabunta made the action feel way more important than typical filler usually does and I actually stayed interested the whole time and Anko getting some backstory was a nice bonus too

Anko having those memories of Orochimaru made this filler actually worth watching, and her character deserves more screen time like this

That sea boss monster thing was such a weird design and you can tell the budget went into Gamabunta finishing it off

Isaribi finding some peace at the end was nice, but this mission dragged on for too many episodes

It really bothered me how the animation looked during the big water fight. I just want to get back to the main story already

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 173 serves as the finale of the Kaima Capture Mission arc, resolving the conflicts established in the preceding episodes—particularly Naruto's confrontation with Amachi and his bond with Isaribi explored in 'Despair: A Fractured Heart.' Deep into the original Naruto's extended filler run (episodes 136-220), this wraps up one of the more emotionally grounded filler arcs before the series shifts into the lighter, standalone 'Impossible! Celebrity Ninja Art - Money Style Jutsu!' next episode.
