Seeing Akamaru get hurt like that was actually painful to watch because they have such a strong bond. Kiba using his own jacket to trick the brothers was a smart play but stabbing himself was on a different level. He is literally bleeding out just to save his dog and it shows how much he has grown as a ninja.
