I still cannot believe Sasuke actually lost that fight even with Chidori and that sword Aoi used was just way too cheap

Most filler stories feel like a waste of time but seeing the backstory with Ibiki and how Idate was basically forced to betray the village actually added a lot of weight to this race mission

That cliffhanger is so mean and it is impossible to know if anyone survived that fall or how they are going to stop Aoi now that the Chidori is useless

Watching Aoi mock the Chunin exams and trick Idate like that made him so easy to hate and it makes it even more satisfying whenever Naruto starts to get through to Idate

It really hit me how Naruto refuses to give up on Idate even when that thunder blade is clearly way too strong for them right now

Aoi is such a jerk for bringing up the Uchiha massacre to get in Sasuke's head and it clearly worked since Sasuke just lost it and got himself tossed off the side of the bridge

I normally skip these arcs but I am glad I stuck with this one because the fight on the bridge was actually intense and seeing the Second Hokage's sword in action was really cool, that cliffhanger has me so stressed for Naruto and Idate right now and I really need to know how they win against Aoi since he is so overpowered

It is wild that a filler villain has a sword that can just repel a Rasengan like it is nothing, and watching Naruto just keep getting back up to help Idate was honestly great

Sasuke getting taunted about the Uchiha massacre and then losing his mind before getting thrown off the bridge was such a brutal moment to watch

I thought the link between Idate and Ibiki through that Chunin exam flashback was actually a great touch and it made me care way more about Idate's whole redemption story

Aoi actually blocking both Rasengan and Chidori with that thunder blade was crazy to see and it was totally unexpected to see Sasuke get bodied that hard after being taunted about his clan

That final hit Naruto landed was huge and he actually looks like he knows how to use the rasengan in a real fight now

Aoi is such a jerk for bringing up the massacre and you could see the look on Sasukes face when he realized his best move was totally useless

The rasengan Naruto used to finish the fight was easily the best part and he really carried the team while everyone else was struggling

The parallel to the tenth question during the exams was a nice touch, and it made Ibiki feel a lot more human than just being some scary guy in a coat.

I usually skip filler but the backstory with Idate and Ibiki actually felt like it belonged in the main show. Watching Ibiki choose to stay behind and get tortured so his brother could escape was intense and it explains why Idate is so messed up. Sasuke looks like he is about to snap after getting beaten like that though.

It is weird seeing the chidori do basically nothing against that sword and you can see Sasuke starting to lose it because he is not as strong as he wants to be

I really didnt expect Ibiki to have a brother and that flashback to the exam was so grim and seeing him sacrifice himself for Idate was actually pretty sad

Aoi getting blasted off that cliff by a rasengan was such a great way to end that fight after all the trouble he caused

Finding out Idate is Ibikis brother made me care a lot more about this mission than I thought I would for a filler arc

EPISODE CONTEXT

Falling in the middle of the Land of Tea Escort Mission filler arc, this episode picks up directly from 'Run Idate Run! Nagi Island Awaits!' where the team encountered escalating obstacles during a high-stakes race. 'A Fierce Battle of Rolling Thunder!' ramps up the conflict significantly, serving as the arc's action peak before leading into 'The Last Leg: A Final Act of Desperation,' which brings this filler mission to its conclusion. At episode 105 of 220, this sits firmly in the original series' mid-run stretch of filler content between major canon arcs.
