Guy saying he would die right along with Lee if the surgery fails is the most extreme mentor move ever

Lee's tears over the surgery absolutely crushed me, because his whole life and drive are wrapped up in being a ninja, you know? I really hope he makes it through this, I can't even imagine what he'd do if he couldn't fight alongside Guy-sensei anymore.

Guy and Lee are basically father and son at this point and that talk about his ninja way was exactly what he needed

Lee having to decide on a surgery that might kill him is so heavy, and Guy promising to die with him proves he is basically Lee's father

Tsunade staying up all night reading books to save Lee's career shows she actually cares about the village now

The flashbacks to Lee being told he would never be a ninja made that final scene with Guy even more intense

It feels so cruel that Lee has to gamble his life just to keep his dream alive after working harder than everyone else. I really felt for him when he was looking at the birds and feeling stuck. Guy saying he would die with him if the surgery failed was such a powerful moment, and it makes that promise to die together feel so much more real.

I was definitely tearing up when that music started playing during Guy's speech about dying with Lee if the surgery goes wrong

Lee standing there in the rain thinking about his dream being over is the saddest thing and I hope Tsunade can actually fix his leg and spine

Guy promising to die with Lee if the surgery goes wrong is the most intense thing a teacher has ever said in this show. It makes you realize how much they both sacrificed, just for Lee to stand a chance against people with natural talent. Even the rock paper scissors match with Kakashi felt important because of how Guy uses rules to stay disciplined

My eyes were literally leaking when Lee asked if he should give up on being a ninja and Guy gave him that speech about his ninja way

That moment when Guy calls Lee a genius of hard work is really sad, especially since Lee feels like he lost everything after the Gaara fight

It is wild how Guy turned a silly game of rock paper scissors into a whole training session and it really shows why Lee looks up to him so much

The way Tsunade is staying up all night reading those medical books to save Lee shows she really cares about being Hokage and not just gambling anymore

Lee looking so broken in that hospital bed while everyone else is moving on really hurt my heart and I just want him to get the surgery and be okay

Seeing Guy do five hundred laps just because he lost at rock paper scissors is such a funny way to show how serious he takes his training and his promise to Lee

I actually started crying when Guy told Lee he would die with him if the surgery failed because that bond is way deeper than just a teacher and student thing

Lee standing there crying while Guy tells him to take the surgery is the most emotional scene in the show and it shows how far Guy will go to protect his student's dream

Konohamaru locking himself in that room felt like it dragged on a bit, but seeing him finally accept Tsunade as the new leader was a decent way to bridge the gap after his grandfather died

The show hitting one hundred episodes with such a heavy focus on Lee and Guy instead of Naruto was a bold move and it made the milestone feel special

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off 'The Will of Fire Still Burns!' which established critical stakes and decisions, Episode 100 zeroes in on Rock Lee's personal crossroads and his relationship with Might Guy during a pivotal moment in his ninja career. This introspective, character-heavy installment serves as an emotional anchor before the series shifts gears entirely — the following episode, 'Gotta See! Gotta Know! Kakashi-Sensei's True Face!,' pivots to a notably lighthearted and comedic tone. Sitting at the midpoint of Naruto's 220-episode run, this is a strong example of the show pausing its larger narrative to invest deeply in what makes its characters resonate.
