This was the first anime that was introduced to me by a friend. Naruto really did make a strong impression in this episode, he is a trouble maker and some kind of a failure but deep down he is just any kid who wants to be acknowledged. Aside from the story, the soundtrack hooked me into this anime.

The storytelling is nostalgic in a way, especially bc of the art style. It may come off as corny to others but it's actually really well-done

If going into this series blind, the hype the last scene creates is way off the charts 😮 amazing execution for Ep 1

Strong start to the series. Never realised that the pacing and event structure was well-thought out here

The first episode of Naruto does a really good job of making you feel connected to Naruto immediately.
You see a loud, annoying kid at first — but within minutes, you realize he’s lonely, ignored, and carrying pain nobody talks about.
What makes Episode 1 hit hard:
Naruto acting out for attention feels realistic.
The swing scene outside the academy is simple but emotional.
Iruka Umino acknowledging Naruto for the first time changes everything.
The ending with the Shadow Clone Jutsu instantly shows his hidden potential.
That final moment:
“He’s not the demon fox… he’s Naruto Uzumaki of the Hidden Leaf.”
…is what makes many people continue the series.
Visually, early Naruto has that raw 2000s anime charm too — rough animation, emotional music, and strong atmosphere. It feels nostalgic even o

A kid who just wants to be seen — that's all it takes to hook you completely. The world drops in fast and the emotional core hits immediately. One of anime's great first episodes. No debate.

A fun and emotional introduction to Naruto. His prankster personality contrasts with his loneliness. The Mizuki betrayal and Iruka's support create a meaningful and memorable first episode.

Even though I’ve seen Naruto a few times, I still like the feeling and atmosphere. Naruto always gets me, I felt really bad for him. I hate how everyone treats him. I’m a fan of Iruka and Naruto’s relation, very wholesome!!

The first episode gives a head start to the series. Untrusted by many, Naruto was only an outcast until Iruka believed in him. The drama starts with a promise. An indomitable spirit in a boy instils great storytelling and diction. The flow is placid, and the animation is gold.

The storytelling is great. Great way to start a hero's journey added with great soundtracks. Good pilot episode.

Naruto, all alone on that swing while everyone else had their families, just absolutely broke my heart. I immediately understood that his desperation for attention, even if it means trouble, must come from this profound loneliness of never being truly seen.

EPISODE CONTEXT

As episode 1 of 220, this is the definitive starting point — no prior context needed, just a world being built from the ground up. It establishes Naruto's driving motivation, his key relationships, and the Hidden Leaf Village as a living setting. The next episode, 'My Name is Konohamaru!', expands Naruto's circle and deepens his character through new interactions, continuing the early-series foundation before the team formations and missions that define the opening arcs.
