The mental shogi scenes were cool, but the light novel definitely handled the rescue much better since Temari was supposed to be the one to break the spell with her wind instead of Shikamaru just snapping out of it.

I really liked seeing the hidden botanical garden because it shows how Gengo actually thinks he is helping his village by growing those blue flowers. It was also cool seeing Shikamaru use mental shogi to keep his head straight while being tortured. It made the moment Temari and the rest of the squad finally arrived feel like a massive payoff.
