It's seriously insane to think that Black Zetsu was behind everything for centuries, just patiently manipulating Indra's descendants until he finally got what he wanted. I mean, that kind of long-game planning is just next-level villainy, it makes me wonder how much of anything was actually 'free will' in this whole story.
