Sasuke shutting Sakura down after she insulted Naruto was such a good moment because he was the only one there who actually understood the pain of being alone at that age

It is wild that we are going back to the bell test right now but it actually works and I liked seeing Kakashi think about his old team while everyone is arguing about who should be the sixth hokage, Danzo is a complete snake for trying to steal that position while Tsunade is down and even if this is technically filler it makes me want Kakashi to lead the village instead of that old man

Even though this is a filler episode during a really intense part of the story, the way it connects Kakashi's past with his teaching style makes it worth the watch for the nostalgia

Sakura saying those things about Naruto being an orphan right in front of Sasuke was so hard to watch and you can see exactly why Sasuke got so pissed off at her

The contrast between the hopeful start of Team 7 and the current state of the leaf village after Pain destroyed everything is just plain depressing

Kakashi choosing to pass them because they actually looked out for each other is still the best lesson in the series and it carries so much weight seeing it again after everything they went through

I really needed this look back at the original bell test because seeing how much those three have changed since the beginning makes the current mess in the village feel even heavier

Danzo trying to swoop in and take the Hokage seat while Tsunade is in a coma makes me so mad and he is easily the most punchable character in the entire village

I was honestly so shocked when Sakura told Naruto he was lucky he didn't have parents to scold him; like, how could she even think of saying that after everything he's been through? My jaw dropped when Sasuke immediately shut her down though, it just shows he really does get what Naruto's dealing with even if he's not around all the time.

That shot of tiny Naruto by himself on the swing always makes my chest ache a little, I mean, you really see how deeply that isolation must have shaped his entire life and his relentless pursuit of connection. It makes so much sense why he'd go so hard for his friends and dream of being Hokage when he started with absolutely nothing.

That flashback to Naruto and Sasuke's rooftop fight is such a classic, but it's heartbreaking to see Kakashi reliving it and probably just wondering where he went wrong as their sensei. I feel for him, it must be crushing to think about how he couldn't keep them together.

Kakashi's inner thoughts in this filler episode really got to me, and I couldn't help but feel how much heavy stuff he's carried alone, making me forget for a bit that it was even filler. For a moment there, my heart genuinely ached thinking about all the losses he's endured since he was a kid.

Okay, so I was a little thrown off by Dango just appearing out of nowhere, it felt kinda random to me. But man, I really appreciate them diving into Kakashi's headspace and showing us how he genuinely felt about meeting Team 7 for the first time; it makes so much sense with how he acted back then.

Sasuke actually shutting down Sakura for trashing Naruto's parents felt so important, and seeing it through Kakashi's eyes now, I realized how much that moment must've solidified his quiet dread for Team 7. It makes my heart ache thinking about how long he's been carrying the weight of Sasuke's path, knowing what he'd eventually have to do.

Ugh, not *another* flashback to the bell test and academy days, I swear I've seen these a hundred times already. I just wish they'd get back to the main story because I'm on the edge of my seat with the war and all the current action! events happening now!

Watching Kakashi flash back to Team 7's beginnings genuinely made me feel the crushing weight of their current predicament even more. I got the sense he was reflecting not just on happy memories, but also on all the innocence they've lost. It just made me wonder if he carries some regret for how things turned out.

Kakashi’s agonizing thoughts about Sasuke in this filler episode really got to me, reminding me how much he must feel the crushing weight of history repeating itself. Seeing those brief academy flashbacks, I couldn't help but wonder if he blames himself for Sasuke's path, especially with the ghost of Obito and Rin always lurking.

A warmth spread through me as I watched Kakashi, hidden in the shadows, just taking them all in. I kept picturing him recalling all their ridiculous antics as genin, probably feeling a quiet pride in how much these knuckleheads have truly grown up.

Sasuke being such a little brat right off the bat genuinely cracked me up; I guess some things never change, even after everything they've been through. Watching it all through Kakashi's eyes really reminded me how he's *always* had to put up with that attitude, but it also made me realize how much he still sees the kid he trained in there.

Gah, when Sakura just *went there* and called Naruto a brat for having no parents, I honestly cringed, even though it was classic Sakura. But seeing Sasuke immediately shut her down? That actually made me feel a bit nostalgic for their early Team 7 days, seeing him stick up for Naruto like that again.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Episode 179 sits within a stretch of character-focused filler episodes, following 'Iruka's Decision' (Episode 178), which explored Iruka's bond with Naruto from his own perspective. This episode mirrors that approach by shifting the lens to Kakashi's mentorship, and it leads into 'Inari's Courage Put to the Test' (Episode 180), continuing the pattern of revisiting supporting characters' backstories before the main narrative resumes. None of these episodes advance the central plot, but they form a loose cluster of retrospective character pieces.
