Naoko no Tropic Angel: Hyouryuu
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Mid-flight from Los Angeles to Japan, an actual demon tears into a plane's engine, forcing an emergency water landing and sending the whole story careening in a very different direction. From there, Nina, her companion Shigeru, and a mysterious blonde woman they just met end up stranded on a deserted island with nothing but each other and whatever interpersonal tension was already simmering at 30,000 feet. That's the setup, and it leans into both the survival premise and the adult content pretty quickly from there. This is a single-episode OVA from 1985, which puts it among the earliest adult anime releases ever made — in the same era as Cream Lemon and Lolita Anime, if those mean anything to you. The animation carries that unmistakable mid-80s hand-drawn aesthetic: slightly rough, warm, distinctly of its time. What makes it a little different from its contemporaries is the supernatural hook — most adult OVAs from this period were straightforward in their setup, but tossing a demon into the mix gives it a weird edge. If you're someone who's curious about where adult anime actually started, or you just enjoy digging through obscure 80s OVAs the way some people flip through old records, this is a curious artifact worth knowing about. It's short, it's strange, and it exists at an odd crossroads between pulp adventure and adult content that the era was just figuring out how to navigate.
