Mystery of the Necronomicon
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Heavy snowfall traps a private detective and his adopted daughter at a remote ski lodge, leaving them stuck with a handful of strangers. Then one of those strangers turns up dead. That's where Kuro no Danshou starts — a tight, closed-circle mystery in the vein of Agatha Christie, where everyone's a suspect and nobody's talking. But don't mistake this for a straightforward whodunit. As detective Susuki digs into the other guests, the investigation stops feeling like a murder case and starts feeling like something much darker. Occult undercurrents, repressed memories, and a creeping dread that suggests the real threat might not be human at all. The 1990s cel animation gives it that dense, grainy atmosphere you get from the best horror OVAs of that era — think the visual weight of Urotsukidouji: Legend of the Overfiend or the bleak psychological tension of Bible Black. Yes, this is a hentai OVA, but it's one that actually commits to its narrative. The explicit content is woven into a story with genuine stakes and character depth, which puts it closer in spirit to something like Kite than the average release in the genre. Four episodes, based on a visual novel, and it uses that tight runtime to build real claustrophobic tension. If you want something that takes the horror seriously and treats the mystery as more than window dressing, this is worth your time.
