Episode Context

This episode opens a six-episode OVA that picks up directly after the conclusion of the original Fushigi Yuugi series, bridging the protagonists' post-story lives into a new conflict. With no prior OVA 2 episodes behind it, everything here is foundational, establishing the new status quo and introducing the antagonistic force that will drive the remaining five episodes. Consider this the necessary calm before what follows dismantles it.
