My Melody & Kuromi
Oshimeter
Synopsis
In a soft, candy-colored fantasy world called Mariland, two rival shops sit across the street from each other. On one side, My Melody — a relentlessly cheerful rabbit — runs a thriving cake shop with her friends Flat and Piano. On the other side, Kuromi — her self-proclaimed rival with a punk-rock hood and a chip on her shoulder — can barely get anyone through the door of her Japanese sweets shop. When a mysterious pink heart turns up in the forest and a big sweets-making contest gets announced, their low-key rivalry starts building toward something that could actually matter for the whole town. This is a 12-episode ONA from Wit Studio done entirely in stop-motion, and honestly, the craft alone is worth your time. Every frame has this warm, handmade texture that makes Mariland feel like a place you could reach out and touch. The whole thing was made to celebrate My Melody's 50th anniversary and Kuromi's 20th, and the theme song is by LE SSERAFIM with production from Gen Hoshino, which is a combination I didn't know I needed. The vibe is cozy and gentle — think Rilakkuma and Kaoru's quiet charm mixed with the Sanrio character dynamics you'd recognize from Onegai My Melody or even the workplace humor of Aggretsuko, just softer. It's the kind of show you put on when you want something genuinely sweet without it feeling hollow. Short episodes, zero stress, surprisingly well-made.
