My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999

Synopsis
Getting dumped by your boyfriend for another girl he met in the same MMO all three of you play together, that's a special kind of sting, and Akane Kinoshita feels every bit of it. Instead of logging off forever, Akane keeps playing Forest of Savior and drags herself to an in-game meetup event, hoping to confront her ex. What she gets instead is Akito Yamada, a stoic, borderline antisocial high schooler who also happens to be a top-tier pro gamer in her guild. He barely talks, shows almost zero emotion, and wants nothing to do with her drama. Naturally, Akane latches onto him anyway. The charm here is watching two people who have no business getting close to each other slowly, awkwardly close that gap. Akane is messy and emotional and still recovering from heartbreak; Yamada is closed off and blunt in a way that somehow ends up being endearing rather than cruel. Their dynamic has this gentle push-and-pull that feels earned rather than manufactured. Madhouse handles the animation with care across 13 episodes, and the show balances real-world scenes with the colorful MMO setting without making either feel like an afterthought. If you liked the gaming-meets-romance vibe of Recovery of an MMO Junkie or the nerdy relationship energy of Wotakoi, this fits right in that lane. It's warm, it's funny in quiet ways, and it treats online friendships like real ones: because they are.
