My Hero Academia: Two Heroes

Hitching a ride with All Might and Deku on a vacation sounds wholesome enough, right? This movie takes the Class 1-A crew to I-Island, a floating research hub where scientists develop hero tech and Quirk-related gear. It's basically a sci-fi convention for the superhero world. Deku meets Melissa Shield, who's Quirkless like he used to be but channels that energy into engineering instead of wallowing in it. She's a genuinely good addition to the cast, not just a movie-only throwaway character. Her dad, David Shield, is an old colleague of All Might's from his early hero days, which gives you some nice backstory on the big guy before he became the Symbol of Peace. Naturally, things go sideways: the island gets locked down, villains show up, and the kids have to fight their way through a high-rise tower floor by floor while the adults are sidelined. Studio Bones brings their usual clean action animation, and composer Yuki Hayashi keeps the energy moving without it feeling forced. The whole thing has a sort of Die Hard structure if John McClane had a class full of superpowered teenagers backing him up. If you're into My Hero Academia already, this slots neatly into the timeline during summer break. If you liked the team dynamics in something like Naruto: The Last Movie or the hero society angle from Tiger & Bunny, this hits similar notes. It's a tight 96 minutes: no filler, just a solid standalone story.
