Mutant Turtles: Choujin Densetsu-hen

When four mutant turtles walk into a shrine and walk out with the ability to transform into armored super-warriors for exactly three minutes, that time limit is doing a lot of work in this story. Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael receive mystical MutaStones from Crys-Mu, a spirit of light, which kick off a power arms race when Shredder finds his own Dark MutaStone and upgrades himself into Devil Shredder — and Bebop and Rocksteady get the same treatment. Everyone gets a glow-up, and chaos follows. This two-episode OVA from 1996 leans hard into Japanese Sentai aesthetics, complete with transformation sequences that feel straight out of Power Rangers or Kamen Rider.
