EPISODE REVIEWS

This episode was so painful and infuriating to watch—just like Episode 7, but for completely different reasons. I’m sure anyone watching this will have such mixed emotions, so definitely prepare yourself if you get angry or emotional easily! It gives us a mother-son relationship that is 180 degrees different from what we saw in Episodes 5 and 7, brilliantly showing just how complex, raw, and flawed human nature and relationships can be.

Episode 8 beautifully explores the boundary between humans and mushi through a quiet, emotional story. Its themes of isolation, connection, and acceptance are handled with Mushishi's signature calm atmosphere and thoughtful storytelling.

This episode's visual approach deserves immense praise. The brilliant interplay between light and darkness is used to heighten the main character's emotional isolation.
