EPISODE CONTEXT
As episode 12 of 13, this is the first half of the series finale's two-part endgame, following the Milverton confrontation in 'The Two Criminals' and channeling all of Part 2's accumulated tension into a single narrative focal point. Moriarty's grand plan, seeded across the entire season, reaches its critical tipping point here, with every alliance and ideological clash converging. It feeds directly into 'The Final Problem, Act 2,' the season's final episode, where the dramatic confrontation between Moriarty and Sherlock will resolve.
