Momoko

Synopsis
Stuck in the most predictable rut imaginable, salaryman Kentaro shares an apartment with his old study buddy Haruo, is engaged to his demanding boss's daughter Reiko, and is generally just... coasting. Then he crosses paths with Momoko, an aspiring actress dead-set on becoming Japan's answer to Marilyn Monroe, and through a stroke of bad luck on his part, she ends up jobless. Her solution? Move into his apartment and sort everything out herself. His life has never been more complicated. This 1990 two-episode OVA, based on a manga, leans into adult content but frames it around a genuinely chaotic love triangle with some actual comedic energy. Momoko as a character has a specific kind of loud, theatrical personality that makes the setup feel less mechanical than a lot of adult anime from this era. The contrast between Reiko's cold entitlement and Momoko's relentless chaos gives Kentaro's situation a real shape beyond just the obvious. Things only get messier when Momoko worms her way into his workplace too. It's short, it's from a specific era of adult OVA production, and it wears its influences openly. If you've watched something like Shoujo Sect and appreciated when adult anime at least attempts a coherent character dynamic, this scratches a similar itch. Don't expect deep drama, but for what it is — a breezy, occasionally funny adult OVA with a distinctive early-90s aesthetic — it holds together reasonably well.
