Synopsis
Caught stealing a golden Virgin Mary statue from a church, a thief named Marina opens the story in about as compromising a position as possible — which is already a bold enough premise on its own. Rather than turning her over to the authorities, the head nun offers her something unexpected: a chance to work in the convent and make things right. So now Marina, career criminal, is living among nuns and trying to figure out what redemption actually looks like when you never asked for it. This 1999 OVA is a single episode adapted from manga, and it leans hard into the contrast between its setting and its content. A convent is about as loaded a backdrop as you can pick for adult anime, and the story does use that tension in ways that are more character-driven than you might expect going in. Marina is not a passive character — she has a personality and a history, and watching her navigate a world completely foreign to her gives the story more texture than the premise might suggest. If you liked the irreverent religious humor in Maria Holic or the unconventional female leads in Marine a Go Go, there is a similar energy here, though the tone skews much more adult. It is a short watch, clearly aimed at a specific audience, and it does not pretend otherwise. Just go in knowing what it is and you will find a surprisingly specific little story about a thief who ends up somewhere she never planned to be.
