A bittersweet ending. What I love about this anime is its very detailed and in-depth story. Although I think the Newtype story is an unexpected plot twist, I consider it a spice in the ideological war between the Federation and Zeon. Perhaps in the future, Newtype could become a new source of conflict. For a classic anime, this anime is a must-watch.

Episode Context

As episode 43 of 43, 'Escape' is the definitive conclusion to Mobile Suit Gundam, arriving immediately after the devastating battle at A Baoa Qu that pushed both the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon to their breaking points. Every character arc. Amuro's growth as a Newtype, his rivalry with Char, and the bonds forged aboard the White Base, converges here for final resolution. This episode closes the book on the One Year War and stands as the capstone of one of anime's most influential series.
