Great start! It begins with Mikazuki and Orga as the main characters, and even after rewatching it for the second time, I still really enjoyed the animation, soundtrack, story, battles, political issues, and so much more! Most importantly, the reveal of Barbatos was so exhilarating!

I have never watch a Gundam series and my friend recommended it to me. I always thought about Gundam series to feel childish to watch, like how a kid recommends you to watch Frozen or make you watch Nemo. With this mindset, I sat the bar low when watching the first episode.

I was completely and utterly wrong about Gundam. The grittiness of the world, the ongoing war between factions, the reveal of Barbatos is all exhilarating. But you slowly start to realize that the people fighting are just kids trapped on a world that gave them no choice but to participate on a war and kill each other.

Rewatching this after 10 years and it still gives me goosebumps! The storyboard and soundtrack are incredible. It perfectly sets up Mars as an exploited colony. Must-watch to see how it frames child soldiers not as heroes, but victims of poverty.

1st episode immediately drops you into this brutal world child soldiers, giant mechs, and a heavy political situation plus, the protagonist is one of the most quietly terrifying in gundam history. out of all the gundam series Ive watched this opener is definitely the most successful dude this is a must watch LFG!

A great start to a new Gundam series. Beautiful soundtrack, a whole new story in a new world, and unique mechanical designs. The gritty setting and political exposition are developed well, and do a good job of setting up the tone of the rest of the series.

An underdog in faction as well as life is a very gifted pilot. I enjoyed how they took the time to build the tension before the adventure began.

As a longtime fan of classic Gundam series, I was honestly surprised by how different Iron-Blooded Orphans feels from the traditional Gundam world. Personally, I still find myself drawn more to the classic mobile suit designs, but not so bad!

EPISODE CONTEXT

As episode one of twenty-five, 'Iron and Blood' serves purely as foundation—establishing the Martian setting, the power structures that oppress characters like Mikazuki and Orga, and the bonds that will drive every decision they make going forward. There's no prior context needed; this is your entry point into one of Gundam's grittiest timelines. Everything introduced here—the child soldier dynamic, the corporate military hierarchy, the simmering resentment—becomes the fuel for escalating conflicts across the full season.
