This episode introduces Jeanne, a clueless and lewd nun. She acts as a foil to Kanan, adding a fresh dynamic to the comedy. The episode itself is fun, and I enjoyed watching her antics.

Just when the series seemed comfortable focusing solely on Kanan and Yoji's budding relationship, Episode 5 throws a new variable into the mix: Jeanne, a self-proclaimed saint who descends from heaven with the mission of protecting Yoji from demonic influence. In theory, this should create a dramatic clash between good and evil. In practice, it creates one of the funniest episodes of the season.

Jeanne is an excellent addition to the cast. While she initially appears to be Kanan's natural rival, the episode quickly reveals that she's far from the flawless holy warrior her introduction suggests. Her airheaded personality and tendency to get herself into trouble make her less of a threat and more of a walking disaster. Rather than disrupting the show's chemistry, Jeanne complements it by introducing a fresh source of chaos.

The dynamic between Kanan and Jeanne is where the episode shines brightest. The setup practically begs for an intense supernatural rivalry, but the comedy comes from how poorly that rivalry functions in reality. Kanan wants to maintain her dignity as a demon, Jeanne wants to fulfill her divine mission, and neither seems particularly capable of handling the situation properly.

What keeps Episode 5 engaging is that Jeanne's arrival doesn't sideline the romance. Instead, her presence highlights Kanan's growing feelings for Yoji and creates new opportunities for jealousy, embarrassment, and misunderstandings. The show continues to understand that its strongest asset is character interaction rather than supernatural conflict.

Visually, the episode maintains the series' strengths. Jeanne's exaggerated reactions fit seamlessly alongside Kanan's emotional meltdowns, resulting in some of the most expressive comedy the show has delivered so far.

Final Verdict: Episode 5 successfully avoids the common rom-com trap of introducing a rival character solely to manufacture drama. Instead, Jeanne arrives as a lovable disaster whose presence enhances the existing cast dynamics. Her chemistry with Kanan creates fresh comedic opportunities while keeping the romance moving forward.

I can't believe Kanan got outplayed by a nun who thinks saliva is holy water and it was so funny seeing her get so mad about Jeanne touching Kyogi before she could even hold his hand

Jeanne is literally too dumb to realize Kanan is the devil and it makes every scene she is in hilarious especially when she starts living under a bridge and counseling bikers like a local saint

Watching Jeanne try to bless him with her saliva was so gross and funny at the same time and you really have to feel for Kyogi after that whole ordeal

My heart was melting at the ending when Kanan finally held his hand after all that stress with the angel following them around all day

I died laughing when the nurse just closed the curtains and let Jeanne do her thing because the voice acting for her is so perfect and deadpan

EPISODE CONTEXT

Coming off Episode 4's Ami-driven push that brought Kanan and Youji closer together, Episode 5 widens the playing field by introducing a heavenly counterforce in Jeanne. Sitting at the series' midpoint, this episode marks a tonal expansion — the conflict is no longer just demonic mischief but a tug-of-war between opposing supernatural agendas. It lays the groundwork for exploring how Youji navigates competing, well-intentioned interference as the back half of the season builds toward its emotional payoffs.
