Oh, this is the start of the misinterpretation of Fujioka's feelings toward Kana! If that's the case Chiaki's a ***** for doing that to her sister. No one would read a letter like that, and if it were he'd have called her out. The animation is nice and crisp surprisingly since this is the start of the entire series hence the oldest. Their large round heads, necks, and overall bodies are throwing me for a loop. Luckily Haruka's design barely changes from the different studios. The first season has Chiaki's ahoge take center stage, it is much more prominent now than in later seasons. Kana is just as rambunctious as ever her early design takes much inspiration from this season, on the other hand I'm glad Fujioka's design was changed for the better.
