Episode Context

Coming off the series opener 'Mermaid Does Not Smile,' which established Yuta and Mana's cursed dynamic and the brutal rules of this world's mermaid lore, this episode pivots to an entirely new location and cast of characters. It functions as the first half of a two-part arc, meaning the story here is deliberately incomplete, resolutions and payoffs land in 'Village of the Fighting Fish (Part II).' Watching both parts back-to-back is strongly recommended.
