Menhera Ayuri no Yamanai Onedari: Headphone wa Hazusenai
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Once an idol, Ayuri Utakata is now watching her album sales tank, her label threatening to drop her, and she's not handling it well — we're talking genuine mental health spirals and self-destructive behavior. Her manager Keita is doing everything he can to keep her career from completely falling apart, and the two of them end up in a relationship that blurs a lot of professional lines. The core tension is actually interesting: can Ayuri channel whatever she's going through emotionally into music that connects with people, before the label pulls the plug entirely? The show leans into her psychological fragility pretty directly rather than glossing over it, which gives it a different texture than most titles in this space. It's a 2-episode OVA adapted from a visual novel by Grand Cru bourgeois, so it's short and focused rather than sprawling. If you've watched something like Kimi no Na wo Yobeba and appreciated the emotional weight underneath the surface content, there's a similar thread here around a complicated artist struggling to create. Fans of Kanojo x Kanojo x Kanojo or Stringendo: Angel-tachi no Private Lesson will find familiar ground in the format, but the idol industry backdrop and Ayuri's mental health angle give it its own specific identity. It's not a cheerful watch, but it's not trying to be.
