MegaMan: Wishing upon a Star
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Falling asleep with Mega Man 5 paused on his screen is all it takes for Yuuta Kobayashi to let Dr. Wily slip out of the game world and into reality. Mega Man follows him out, and suddenly this blue robot hero is standing in a real Japanese house, completely bewildered by everything around him — festivals, food, cultural customs he's never encountered inside a video game. Yuuta has to help him navigate the real world while they both try to stop Wily from using actual robots to cause actual chaos. This is a 3-episode OVA from 2002, light in tone and genuinely charming in premise. It leans educational — Mega Man discovering Japanese culture is the backbone of the story, not just a side note — which gives it a different texture than most action-oriented Mega Man content. It's not trying to be intense. It's a short, breezy watch that feels like a Saturday morning cartoon with a bit of cultural curiosity baked in. If you grew up with MegaMan NT Warrior or Rockman.EXE Axess, this sits in familiar territory — kid-friendly adventure with a classic version of the character. It's also interesting as a piece of Mega Man history, given the unusual production story behind why it even exists. Short commitment, easy watch, and a genuinely fun concept that holds up for what it is.
