Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact!

Twist after twist after twist, what a powerful finale. It was a beautiful ending, yet an incredibly tragic one. I couldn't believe that, after everything they fought for and all the sacrifices they made, their efforts ultimately seemed to be in vain.

The final battle begins, and both sides suffer heavy losses, especially the Mazinger Army. I was also caught by surprise when the episode featured what seemed like a reference to the infamous pop culture "naughty tentacles" trope, except this time, it was recreated with giant mechs.

The final battle has finally begun. As expected, Baron Ashura proves once again that he has no sense of honor, luring Koji Kabuto into an enemy trap. Meanwhile, Dr. Hell puts our heroes under immense pressure by unleashing every Mechanical Beast in a full-scale invasion of the island, much like the attack that took place in Episode 1.

The beginning of the end has finally arrived. It was refreshing to get a few lighthearted moments before the final battle kicked off, especially the comedic scene with the three doctors trying to catch a glimpse of Sayaka Yumi naked.

This episode felt a bit underwhelming to me. It mainly served as the culmination of everything that happened in the previous episodes, bringing all the storylines together and setting the stage for the beginning of the anime's final act.

The beginning of the end is finally here. It was heartwarming to see the mother-and-son bonding moments, especially as Koji and Shiro came to accept Tsubasa as their mother. It was also great to see the return of the Kurogane Five and Detective Ankokuji, along with his loyal android girlfriend, Gammia

Now everything finally makes sense as to why Tsubasa is forced to make the heartbreaking decision to kill her husband. With that revelation, the story begins its final chapter, setting the stage for the beginning of the end of this epic tale.

The comedy in this episode is a breath of fresh air, particularly the scene where Count Brocken’s head turns into a soccer ball. Boss’s fourth-wall break adds to the fun, making it feel like every character knows an audience is watching. On a darker note, Dr. Hell's desperation to secure Photon Energy has reached a peak, as he's now ready to resort to any means necessary.

What bothers me about this episode is how the Mycenaean era can interact with people from the present. Are they really just memories created by the Kedora, or is history itself actually being rewritten?

A new character is introduced, giving us another glimpse into the past from Baron Ashura’s perspective. It’s refreshing to see Dr. Hell form a temporary alliance with Koji and his mother, as both factions face common ruin from Kedora’s rampage.

Something feels off about why Tsubasa Nishikiori isn't acting like a mother to Koji and Shiro. Meanwhile, Dr. Hell remains obsessed with capturing Mazinger Z, and he's getting craftier, attaching a device to his Mechanical Beast before its defeat that allows him to take control of Mazinger later.

This episode centered around a wager between two scientists over who could build the superior robot. In the end, Heinrich Stroheim truly outdid Juzo Kabuto by creating a robot that actually possessed a heart.

The plot is really thickening! I can't believe Dr. Heinrich Stroheim dropped the bombshell on Shiro that Tsubasa Nishikiori is actually his and Koji's mother. What's strange is that Tsubasa doesn't act motherly toward them at all—almost like she wants nothing to do with them. Hopefully, future episodes will reveal why she acts so cold toward her own children.

A new character was introduced in this episode, and I found it strange that Detective Ankokuji would fall for Gamia Q, an assassin android. I also thought it was hilarious how Koji displayed fourth-wall awareness.

Koji really made a huge mistake this episode by surrendering himself to Baron Ashura. Luckily, Tsubasa Nishikiori saw this coming after Aphrodite A was captured. Driven purely by revenge for his grandfather, Koji is losing his cool and taking it out on his own team.

Koji’s training with Kikunosuke really paid off, he managed to escape a critical situation when Vargas captured Mazinger. I was also genuinely surprised to see a Mechanical Beast capable of actually piercing Mazinger's armor!

Great episode overall. Seeing the Kurogane Five showcase their terrifying powers during the Gamia Trio's attack on the Kurogane House was awesome. It really highlighted just how desperate Baron Ashura has become to capture Mazinger Z and impress Dr. Hell.

Koji's arrogance really shines through in this episode. Driven purely by his desire to avenge his grandfather, he behaves as if he can handle the impending battles entirely on his own, brushing off any need for teammates or guidance.

This episode ties everything together—revealing Baron Ashura's backstory, Dr. Hell's vendetta against Juzo and Tsubasa, and why Ashura is completely incapable of touching Tsubasa.

I was initially concerned by Inspector Ankokuji's harsh treatment of Koji, considering the bond they built fighting side-by-side in earlier episodes. As it turns out, it was all part of a cunning trap set by Dr. Hell's minions to trick our protagonist.
