Synopsis
One morning, a 5-year-old poodle mix named Maru — belonging to her owner Woori — wakes up as a human child. Same age, same boundless puppy energy, zero understanding of how human society works. That's the setup for this 8-episode ONA from Studio Shelter, and it goes about as chaotically as you'd expect. The comedy here comes from a very specific place — Maru still thinks like a dog. She's thrilled by walks, suspicious of the mailman, and has no concept of personal space. But now she's a kid, so Woori has to actually deal with this in public. What was normal pet behavior becomes genuinely absurd when it's a small child chasing squirrels or trying to drink from a puddle. Woori, meanwhile, goes from casual pet owner to reluctant big sister overnight, and the show mines that shift for both laughs and surprisingly warm moments. The vibe is pure slice-of-life comfort with a supernatural twist — daily errands, neighborhood interactions, small misunderstandings that snowball. If you liked the chaotic energy of raising Yotsuba in Yotsuba&! or the way Barakamon found humor in a grown adult being overwhelmed by one small child, this hits a similar frequency. It also carries a bit of that Usagi Drop warmth around unconventional family dynamics, though the tone stays firmly comedic and light. At 8 short episodes based on a web manga, it's a low commitment watch that's easy to burn through in an afternoon.
