Episode Context

Episode 8 brought Mao into direct conflict with Byoki, a former senior disciple, signaling that threats from his own past are becoming the season's central tension. Episode 9 continues that thread by pivoting to Kuchinawa, another figure from Mao's history, expanding the pattern of betrayal and complicated loyalty. This episode deepens the foundation for what appears to be a broader reckoning with Mao's origins and the relationships that define, and endanger, him.
