Manul no Yuube
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Mama, a round-faced Pallas's cat, runs a bar. That's basically it, and honestly, that's all it needs to be. Manul no Yuube is a short-form TV series based on a web manga, airing as part of NHK's nature program 'Darwin Kita!' Each bite-sized episode follows Mama, the round-faced Pallas's cat who manages the cozy bar Manul no Yuube, alongside her hostess Tsunomin — who happens to be a Brazilian treehopper, one of the weirdest-looking insects on the planet. Together they welcome a rotating cast of anthropomorphic animal patrons who drop by to chat, vent, and share the small moments of their lives. There's no overarching drama, no villain, no stakes. Just animals hanging out at a bar being themselves. The humor comes from the character dynamics and the absurdity of pairing real animal traits with mundane social situations. It's the kind of thing you put on when you want something gentle and a little odd without committing to a full-length episode of anything. If you liked the low-key animal vibes of Marumaru Manul or the quirky short-form energy of YouTuNya, this fits right in that space. It's also a surprisingly charming entry point if you're curious about anime shorts but don't know where to start. Each episode is quick enough that you can watch several in one sitting without even noticing the time pass.
