The Monster's Price
The screen goes black, then a horrific scene unfolds: a young Rude gnawing on monster flesh, his arm contorting, blood everywhere. A voice explains the grim "Fifth Rule of Adventurers," detailing the three stages of consuming monster meat, culminating in monstrous transformation or death. We see Rude's body breaking apart, his teeth crumbling, but then a defiant scream: "I will survive!" He embraces the monstrous, rejecting death.
The Aura Hunter's Domain
After the horror, a peaceful sky above Varna, a city surrounded by labyrinths, one of them the "Demonic Aura Labyrinth." The narrator explains how its pervasive aura slowly saps an adventurer's strength. Rude walks through its eerie depths, a determined look on his face. He explains his name: "Aura Hunter." It is not a title of pride, but one born of grim necessity.
A Day's Work
Inside the labyrinth, Rude finds glowing green "Demonic Aura Grass," his sole income. He carefully harvests it, taking only what he needs. Suddenly, three demonic rats appear, their red eyes menacing. Rude charges, slicing one, but the others bite and spit poison. He counters with a "Fireball" spell, incinerating them, though he admits it was "close." His survival hinges on these tense, brief encounters.
Mockery in the Labyrinth
Just as Rude catches his breath, three adventurers—Magna, Tanya, and Rond—emerge from the shadows. Magna dismisses Rude's fight, claiming they were "trying to help." They mock him, calling him "Aura Hunter" and implying his weakness. Rude bristles with anger as they surround him, hinting at deeper malice beyond simple taunting.
The Weight of a Useless Skill
Later, Rude is unceremoniously thrown from a tavern, his presence deemed "smelly" by other adventurers. The scene shifts to a charming chibi animation, explaining Rude's unique skill, 'Status Ailment Nullification.' It is perfect for the Demonic Aura Labyrinth but useless in direct combat, leaving him party-less and an outcast. Back in reality, a dejected Rude walks through town, lamenting his "trash skill" and fearing a life as a miserable "Aura Hunter."
A Market Collapses
At the Adventurer's Guild, Rude finds Tanya, the receptionist, dealing with a bustling crowd. A new, treasure-filled labyrinth has been discovered, sending adventurers into a frenzy. Rude initially sees opportunity, but Tanya delivers a crushing blow: the price of Demonic Aura Grass has plummeted. His unique, hard-won income source is suddenly worthless, trapping him in a labyrinth of financial despair.
A Desperate Offer
With his livelihood gone, Rude desperately asks Tanya about the new labyrinth, only to be told his E-rank disqualifies him. He pleads, facing an impossible barrier. Then, Beryl, a D-rank adventurer, approaches with his party members, Sasha and Rick. Beryl offers Rude a position as a porter, praising his "strength" to carry materials. Rude, desperate, accepts, seeing it as his only path forward.
The Terms of Employment
Beryl asks Rude to show his guild card, wanting to assess his status before they venture into the labyrinth. Rude complies, revealing his E-rank, Level 7, and his unique 'Status Ailment Nullification' skill. Beryl smiles, understanding Rude's past in the Demonic Aura Labyrinth. He also notes Rude's weak fire magic, dismissing it as only good for light. Beryl laughs, satisfied with his new "strong porter."
