Shoujo has never been shy in exploring sexuality and gender. Aoi is interesting exploration of gender envy. The character also makes a great parallel for Misaki and the different struggle they have in their complex feelings against men, both trying to dominate them through opposite method, but also their fondness for anything feminine as well are also different.
