I really felt for Rin when Himea got snatched away by those monsters, because you can tell she feels like it was her fault for being too slow. Mii explained that the Hameldar are basically energy vampires and it makes the stakes way higher now. It sucks seeing Rin getting her shield smashed again but her vow to rescue Frostia was a great character moment
