Love Doll
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Living as an orphan in a historical European-inspired world, Rachel finds that things are not going well for her. Her caretakers treat her poorly, a jealous rival makes her life miserable, and the people meant to protect her can't be trusted. Despite all of it, she keeps her head up — which honestly makes watching her situation even harder to sit with. Her one real anchor is her friend Beth, and a quietly developing romance with Prince Andrew gives her something to hold onto. Then a distant relative shows up and complicates everything before it can even get started. This is a 4-episode OVA from 1997, adapted from a visual novel, so it moves fast and leans heavily into the emotional weight of Rachel's story rather than stretching things out. The drama here is character-driven — it's about survival, trust, and finding small reasons for hope when most people around you have bad intentions. The historical setting gives it a melancholy, almost fairy-tale atmosphere, but without the happy ending guarantee. If you've seen Malice@Doll and appreciated how it handles loneliness through a female protagonist's lens, Rachel's story hits a similar emotional note. Fans of Air Doll who like their drama grounded in quiet suffering rather than action will also find this familiar territory. Just go in knowing this is a somber watch — it doesn't pretend her circumstances are anything other than grim.
